Retreats

“Then, because so many people were coming and going that they did not even have a chance to eat, He said to them, “Come with Me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.” Mark 6:31

This time last weekend myself and 25 other women had just finished sharing communion together right there on that boat dock at sunrise. It was the ending to the most wonderful weekend.

Three years ago God laid it on my heart to host a weekend retreat for women because I, myself, longed for true biblical fellowship and connection with like-minded women. My dear friend, Sherry French, shared my vision and we just stepped out in faith, booked a house at the beach, and issued the invitation on social media. And God wooed hearts, bringing the women in.

We’ve come quite a ways since that first retreat, but always, always we believe the Word and Worship are central and foundational to the revival, refreshment, and renewal that gives us true soul rest.

Sometimes we just have to accept the invitation ‘to come away and get some rest.’ In our busyness, we have a hard time giving ourselves permission, but Jesus says, “It’s okay. I want you to.”

To hear women say things like,  “This retreat has changed my life,” fuels my passion to keep this ministry alive.

I’ve come to the conclusion that some women just don’t know what they’re missing. They’ve never known this close fellowship with other women. They’ve not had their hunger satisfied with the meat of the Word or their thirst quenched with a touch of God’s presence. They’ve not worshiped with complete abandon. For some it’s just been awhile and they’ve forgotten.

We can have all this when we practice God’s presence in our daily lives, spend time with Him in the Word and in prayer, worship Him for the fullness of Who He is, yet sometimes we’re so hurried and distracted we let too much time go by. Life presses in and we squeeze God out, but He knows what we need. He never forgets.

After each retreat I’m full for weeks. And so incredibly grateful to God for meeting with us. My soul and spirit always responds, “Thank You, Jesus. For the rest. It was divine.”
